Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, demons, and dark forces expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could enable the group access areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- Thimble and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them no alternative but to head to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.
What’s Next?
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Strategists groups.
Audiences can look forward to discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
